VHP demands withdrawal of the controversial book on Amritanandamayi

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad Monday demanded withdrawal of the controversial book written by a former disciple of spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi.
Australian born Gail Tredwell in her book "Holy hell-- a memoir of faith, devotion and pure madness' claimed she had lived in the mutt for many years and had left after she was fed up with some bitter experiences.
"We are a civilised society and request withdrawal of the book from electronic systems. Nobody should provoke Hindu society', VHP International General secretary Champat Rai told reporters here.
He alleged that this was part of a campaign to malign Hindu society and added that publishing of the book was 'politically motivated' to divide and polarise votes.
Amritanandamayi has dismissed the charges, saying the institution was an "open book" and all its functions were transparent.
She also said the mutt has not done anything wrong and the allegations were without merit.
Police had recently registered a case under the IT Act against some unknown persons who posted adverse comments in the social media based on the content of the book.
